Noah opens up the ark and let all the animals out, telling them to "Go forth and multiply!" He's closing the great doors of the ark when he notices that there are two snakes sitting in a dark corner. So he says to them, "Didn't you hear me? You can go now. Go forth and multiply." "We can't," said the snakes. "We're adders."

ARE CONSUMER-DRIVEN CHURCHES BETRAYING THE AMERICAN SOUL?
EXCERPT FROM CONNECTIONS - 08/29/10:
ARE CONSUMER-DRIVEN CHURCHES BETRAYING THE AMERICAN SOUL?
The Community Church of Joy in Glendale, Arizona, exemplified the successful church of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In 2002 the congregation had 12,000 members. Church operations filled a sprawling 187-acre campus. Community Church of Joy was known as a place where people could enjoy worship experiences that were fun and upbeat, with high production values.
But the pastor who had built this successful church had second thoughts. Walt Kallestad began to wonder what it all amounted to. If Community Church of Joy were to suddenly disappear, would anyone in the larger Phoenix metropolitan area notice or care? Had the church made any real difference?
Kallestad confessed his disquiet to his congregation. He told them the Church was little more than "a dispenser of religious goods and services." People hadn't been asked to make sacrifices, or involve themselves with their neighbor's needs or trials, nor did they welcome challenges to grow and mature. A third of the membership left.
A similar "come-to-Jesus" moment recently occurred at the granddaddy of the modern megachurches, Willow Creek Community Church

WEEKLY PRAYER FOCUS
"Rejoice in the Lord always; I will say it again: Rejoice!" The Apostle Paul wrote these words when he was in prison for serving Jesus.
How can we rejoice, or be happy in Jesus, always? How could the Apostle Paul write "rejoice" when he was in a Roman prison?
The key to this is our happiness must be found in Jesus Christ and in Him alone. If our happiness comes from material things, then if those material things are gone we are no longer happy. But if your happiness and joy come from God, then God will never leave us or forsake us. One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is joy; and this joy is not dependant on our circumstances.
What has God done for you? God has sent His wonderful Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross so we could...be forgiven! Go to heaven! Become His sons and daughters! Have the gift of eternal life! Have the gift of His presence to help us overcome sin here on this earth! How great is the love of God for us. God is with us always, in good times and in bad.
So, this week, let us pray that God will
-
Help us to rejoice in Him always!
-
Allow us to reach even more people for Jesus Christ
-
Help you to share the love of God with someone you love
THANK YOU for your prayers. We would love to pray for you also. Please visit our prayer room: http://pathoflife.wordpress.com/prayer-requests-praise-reports/; or hit "reply" to this email and tell us how we can pray for you, and one of our volunteers will pray for you.
May God bless you,

TRUE SUCCESS
Have you ever looked at someone and thought, If only I could be like him or her, then I could really be successful? Well, true success doesn't come by imitating others, it comes by giving God your best effort no matter what.
Daniel Defoe was not a great preacher or teacher or even an outstanding missionary. Defoe could do only one thing, but he did it well. He could write. For nearly 25 years Daniel Defoe used his writing skill to share Christian principles. You probably know his most famous novel, "Robinson Crusoe," a book dealing with God's purpose for man and the problem of evil.
Defoe wrote more than 250 books. He believed strongly in the Bible verse found in Colossians 3, verse 23, "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men."
What is it God wants you to do for Him? Do you know what your gifts are? You can find out. Open your Bible and read it and that will open your life before God. It all begins with God's Word. Make yourself available and let God use you however He chooses.

YOUR PRAYERS WILL TELL ON YOU
". . . and, Lord, give me that new SUV truck I so desperately need. And help me to get a raise at work and a promotion too. Help me, Lord, to hit a home run in the church softball tournament tonight. These things I pray in Jesus' name, Amen."
Have you noticed how selfish we sometimes are in our prayers? We're more interested in getting our way than God's will. Many years ago there was a man in Israel named Jabez. Verse 10 of 1 Chronicles 4 gives us good insight into Jabez. It records his prayer, and you can tell a lot about a person by what they pray. Listen to what Jabez prayed for. "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" Jabez' was more interested in honoring God with his life than just using God to get everything he wanted. Jabez was committed to God and God blessed him.
It takes a heart committed to God to be more interested in doing what He wants than what we want. Read Jabez's prayer for yourself. Discover more about this little known hero of the Bible who honored God with his life.

DANIEL'S FAITH
In a day and age when the words "corruption" and "leader" seem to go together far too often, Daniel is a refreshing change.
Daniel lived during the time of the Babylonian empire. As a young man, he was hand picked by the Babylonians and trained to serve in the King's court. Yet, amidst the influences of pagan religions, Daniel emerged as a godly hero of the faith. Listen to Daniel's enemies in Daniel 6:5: "We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God." Talk about integrity! The only accusation the enemies of Daniel could make against him was that he was too committed to his God.
In a day when it's sometimes difficult to distinguish Christians from non-Christians, Daniel's commitment to God challenges us to step forward and be identified. What a different world this would be if our faith was as obvious to our enemies as Daniel's faith was to his.
Read more about Daniel and his commitment to God in the book that bears his name. You'll find it in the Old Testament. Then dare to be a Daniel in your world and you'll see your world changed.
