Thought for today - 03/31/2011

"King David once said to God, "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?"  He doesn't ask, "What's the least amount I have to give and not get God ticked off?"  He says, "Who am I, that I should be able to give like this?  I want to use my stuff to build your kingdom, not my kingdom."

"Only one act of pure love, unsullied by any taint of ulterior motive, has ever been performed in the history of the world, namely the self-giving of God in Christ on the cross for undeserving sinners."

urgent prayer request

Please pray for Wayne.  He was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday.
He is in his 70's and accustomed to being self-sufficient and independent.
Please pray that he listen to God's wisdom in taking good care of himself.

Thank you,

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.  Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness.  As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

"The question is not: How many people take you seriously?  How much are you going to accomplish?  Can you show some results?  But: Are you in love with Jesus?"

Weekly Prayer Focus - 03/27/2011

What is a hero? A hero is someone who does something worthy for someone else, often at great cost or sacrifice to themselves.

Jesus Christ is the greatest hero of all times. He came to this earth and sacrificed Himself for the sins of the world. He gave the greatest gift His own life. He took on Himself the punishment for your sins and mine when He hung on the cross and died. He was ridiculed, and humiliated, and beaten all for us.

Sometimes for a family member, someone might give their life, or even for a very good person. But who would give their life for a criminal for one condemned to death? Yet God in His great love sent His own Son Jesus Christ to die for us, who are worthy of death because of our sins. How great is the love of God!

There is a story of a judge who was sitting in court, and one day his own son was brought before him on a charge of stealing; and his son was guilty. The judge pronounced him guilty, but then came off the bench and paid the fine himself. Jesus Christ paid our penalty for sin all we need to do is turn from our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord and we receive the gift of eternal life. Praise God for His great love!

So, this week, let us pray and

  • Thank God the Father for His wonderful love for us

  • Thank Jesus Christ God's Son for dying on the cross for our sins

  • Thank God the Holy Spirit for coming into our lives when we accept Christ

THANK YOU so much for your prayers. God loves you and so do we!

May God bless you!

"[The prayer of faith] is a prayer willing to believe and prevail for God's answer in a situation that is utterly impossible.  Regardless of the difficulty of the situation, you require no external confirmation but believe God in spite of appearance.  Your eyes are on God, not on the situation."

"The Bible is a rock of diamonds, a chain of pearls, the sword of the Spirit; a chart by which the Christian sails to eternity; the map by which he daily walks; the sundial by which he sets his life; the balance in which he weighs his actions."

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he refreshes my soul.  He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake.  Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.  Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

The first service one owes to others in the fellowship consists in listening to them.  Just as love of God begins in listening to His Word, so the beginning of love for the brethren is learning to listen to them.  It is God's love for us that He not only gives us His Word but lends us His ear.  So it is His work that we do for our brother when we learn to listen to him."

"What we call church is often a conspiracy of cordiality.  Pastors learn to pacify rather than preach to their Ananiases and Sapphiras.  We say we do it out of "love."  Usually, we do it as a means of keeping everyone as distant from everyone else as possible.  You don't get into my life and I will not get into yours."
